Decentralisation has been a key focus of the Cambodian government, aiming to improve local governance and public service delivery. In our latest analysis, "Decentralisation in Cambodia: A Look at Current and Future Environmental and Natural Resources Governance", ClientEarth examines how decentralisation reform is shaping the governance of Cambodia's protected areas and community protected areas.
This analysis, available in both English and Khmer, offers insights into the roles of national and sub-national governments and explores gaps and opportunities in the environmental governance landscape following the enactment of the 2023 Environment and Natural Resources Code. With the delegation of key responsibilities to sub-national authorities, understanding these changes is essential for policymakers, civil society, and stakeholders involved in Cambodia's sustainable development.
We would like to thank the National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development (NCDD) for guiding and supporting the development of this project.
